Google street view


Google street view is a technology under which one gets to see panoramic views of many streets of the world from particular positions. It was introduced in the year 2007 in the United states across many cities.
Here are some basic facts about Google street view :
  • 2007- The launching year. Launched by Immersive media technology.
  • 2008- It was in this year that Google announced that it was experimenting with face blurring technology on the streets of Manhattan. This is one technology that makes use of computer algorithm to detect faces and blur them.  Street view joined with Google Earth 4.3. , maps application for S60 3rd edition, for Apple iPhone.  In the same year pegman icon is introduced as primary user interface.
  • 2009- The full screen option is introduced. Smart navigation also introduced under which the users can navigate by double clicking the cursor  and seeing the various aspects of the panaroma.
  • 2010- Indoor view made available for various businesses. Google introduces a new concept under which it invites users to contribute panoramas which have  blue circle icons.
  • 2013- Small orange circles used for business interior views
  • 2017- It allows users to create their own street view like blue paths. Also high resolution camera used. The google cars using these cameras  seen in various American cities as well as in Japan.Also, since October, Google gives the users the freedom to use street view imagery using insta360 pro.

So, we see that the Google street view car has an immense role to play in capturing images. The faces of the people is blurred due to privacy reasons. So, what exactly is the Google street car? And how does the whole process takes place?
A company by the name of Immersive Media provides the necessary services to Google. They drive a car which carries an 11 lens camera known as Dodeca 360. The camera is huge in size. The Dodeca camera captures pictures at a huge 100 million pixels per second. It also records the GPS as it is on the move.

So, we see it requires high end cameras and technicalities to give one Google shot view. Things are still on the mode of evolution and Google street view will further improve in the times to come.
